The base of this big brown ale has a full body with deep nutty flavors. Backroom Roasters Sumatra Takengon coffee is added to give it soft, rich notes of artisan coffee. The result is a bold but smooth brown ale filled with all your favorite flavors.

Canned on 12/7/20. 16oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a dark brown; small khaki head that fades quickly leaving decent retention and lacing. The aromas seem to have chocolate leading the way followed by the coffee. Some dark fruits. Malts are there. The flavors basically follow the nose. More chocolate and coffee. There's an odd mild sour note, it's almost metallic. The coffee come through without dominating. Some ash in the mix. Moderate bitterness along with a moderate sweetness. I guess that makes it bittersweet. Solid malt backbone. Alcohol is ultimately well hidden for the most part. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's slick and slightly sharp. It's slightly thin, but not watery. It's smooth.
This is an alright coffee brown ale. I mentioned earlier how it had a slight sour/metallic taste, which is something I experienced recently with another beer from Zaftig. I'm definitely not saying it's infected or anything like that because it's not. I think maybe it's just their "house yeast" that I'm not personally a big fan of. I'm not sure, but I've had great beers in the past from Zaftig, for what it's worth. The coffee does its thing. I might sound critical, but it's not bad.
