Aged in a variety of bourbon barrels for 18 months, Ol' Rugger is a tip of the cap to our friend Lynn Harvey and the great sport of rugby. We took our traditional big, bold Rugger flavors and expertly blended them with your favorite fall campfire flavors (chocolate, graham crackers, and toasted marshmallow). These flavors exemplify Ruggers and Zaftig. As they say, "Never let good enough, BE enough."

12 ounce bottle, 2023 vintage. Served in a Zaftig snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that didn't stick around for too long. Small amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, cinnamon/graham crackers, molasses and some bourbon. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some burnt/charred malt, dark fruit, oak and coffee flavors. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's rich and syrupy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was pretty good, worth trying if you get the chance!

12 Fluid Ounce bottle
Served in a snifter
2023

This beer pours black and syrupy. It appears to be low in carbonation. No head to speak of.

Chocolate and a cherry note?

Chocolate, dark red fruit. Hints of anise.

Full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Lacks any carbonation

I am trying to figure out why it was called "S'mores." Other than chocolate it lacked marshmallow or Graham cracker elements. The dark red fruit aspect sure didn't lend itself to having anything to do with s'mores. It's a pretty good barrel aged stout minus the lack of carbonation and smelling and tasting nothing like s'mores and the $18 price tag. I'd say i got took. I bought it a month ago from taproom. It is a 2023 bottle. I don't hate it. I just feel misled.
