Pours a very dark brownish-black with beautiful clarity when held to the light (looks opaque otherwise). Aromas and flavors are extremely balanced: some nuttiness, woodsy earth, a hint of chocolate and caramel, and only the slightest wisp of smoke as the beer warms in the pint glass. Smooth, clean profile. For Institution's first lager, this is a success.
