473 mL can from the LCBO; no canning date and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy golden colour, propping up an inch of soapy, sudsy white head that melts away within two or three minutes. A lovely curtain of messy lace is draped across the glass, with a frothy collar and cap lasting on - looks great so far. The aroma is bready & doughy, reminiscent of sourdough, with lesser hints of lemony, herbal hops and apples.
Tastes sweet off the bat, with suggestions of bubblegum, tart green apple, doughy, bready pale malts & cereal sweetness making for one awkward sip after another. The green apple & bubble gum flavours assert themselves on the back end, making for a weirdly fruity/tart/sweet finish that is not at all appropriate for a Czech pils, or any quality pale lager for that matter. Light in body, with average carbonation that prickles the palate gently during each sip. I can drink this quickly, which is a good thing because I'd really love to move on to something else.
Final Grade: 3.08, a mediocre C+. Euro Pilsner is the seventh beer I've had from Perth, and it might be the worst one yet. The green apple flavours are distracting, ruining what might've otherwise been a tolerable pale lager - I can only assume that this is a pretty old can, since acetaldehyde faults tend to worsen over time. I would give this beer another chance, if I find a sample that I know for sure is relatively fresh. For the time being, however, I wouldn't recommend this at all.
