Formerly known as Maple, Eh!

What could be more Canadian than beer and maple syrup? We make no polite apologies for this super enjoyable ale that brings us all together. This collaboration with Temples Sugar Bush is proudly brewed in the hear of Ontario's maple syrup region, here in Lanark County.

Appearance: Poured with a finger and a half of head that sustained itself decently and produced some minor lacing. The body is a clear amber with red highlights, boasting ample, albeit thin carbonation.

Smell: Like a pancake breakfast from a distance and caramel malt and bready grain is accented by a touch of sticky maple. Warming doesn't really help it's case a bit more potency would be nice.

Taste: The maple certainly makes it's presence know throughout the beer, and in a pretty good way. It starts by adding the sweetness of the fairly restrained grain malt at the initial sip Then as the beer turns to a more bitter aspect, it seems to hold it in check balancing the earthy hop touch.

Mouthfeel: The maple in this beer seems to be filling in the role of the carbonation, which is good since it is a bit lacking. Not much in the way of aftertaste, apart from some muddy tasting hops which seem to finally overpower the maple here. Good transitioning.

Drinkability: The carbonation in the beer makes it's presence known after it has gone down the pipe. It's not overly refreshing either, but given it's dubbed maple beer, I'm willing to give it some slack here as it's a bit more hearty a brew. On the lighter end of medium bodied.

Final Thoughts: All in all, a very well executed brew that makes great work of the maple component to offer something new. I can see this going great with wings or Chinese food, but it's also a solid start of spring drinker for when you have a deck that needs sweeping after the winter. Thumbs up.
