22 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Encountered this oddity at the local beer store. My first beer from Middle Brow Beer Co., and according to the label it is "the first in our series of homebrewer releases". Awesome bottle art. I'm pretty excited for it.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours a woodsy caramel brown color; ruby red in the glass. Two fingers of frothy off-white head that falls quickly. Some thick scattered lacing.
S - The nose doesn't have too much going on - some caramel malt, indistinct fruitiness, creamy, bready, some honey, mild alcohol fumes. Smells lightly Belgian at times.
T - Taste follows the nose. A bit strange, but it's tasty. Some caramel malt, chocolate malt, grainy, bready, yeasty. Not really getting any actual vanilla or cinnamon on the taste or aroma.
M - Feel is smooth and creamy enough. Dry on the finish, medium bodied, with coarse carbonation.
Overall, a nice beer but it isn't exactly the first thing I think of when I hear the word "saison". Carries on that "homebrew" vibe very well. Definitely looking forward to more beers from this brewery in the future.
