A re-release of a 2015 ale, I'm glad I tasted Vitalogy and would again in another few years. But then, I won't buy a 4-pack as I just did; good, but not that good. Vitalogy has just enough Brett to prevent it from pairing with a variety of foods. And given that Middle Brow's primary food is pizza, I'd have to conclude that Vitalogy goes best with pizza; the tart gently counters the sweet of tomato sauce.
Vitalogy Looks below average; not much foam, just a cloudy ale. Smells are interesting and balanced; mostly wheat followed closely by Brett's mid-life. Per the can's copy, the ale's aromas do convey "the evening's answer to summer's midday mildew and morning cicadas." (Don't try to parse that, just use your imagination.) Tastes follow; reasonably balanced for a Brett-based ale. Bubbles and hops cleanse the palate for more pizza.
I sometimes am a big fan of Middle Brow's inventions; using yeasts that make interesting ales and breads and, of course, pizza. But, I'm not a big enough fan to suggest that Vitalogy be released a third time.
