a neat pale saison brewed with rye and ginger, boldly flavored, interesting, and summery for what it is, something a little different in the style is always appreciated too. i have been impressed with these guys in limited exposure. this has a pale yellowish orange color to it and a tall airy white head. it smells like spicy ginger and a little earthy spice from the pale rye malt, some sweeter wheaty malt, a honey note, that with the ginger gives it almost a medicinal tea complexion, and yeast that seems a little more classic belgian than farmhouse saison, estery but short of phenolic. the ginger is nice in the flavor, spicy and natural and pretty assertive, no missing it here thats for sure. i think it covers up the rye a little though, rather than enhancing it like i thought it would in theory. the yeast is definitely a bit belgian to me, green apple and pear notes, a candy thing, apricot, nice with the ginger but perhaps a little overly intense for all day drinking. i want more of the rye malt, but i like the beer a lot overall, soft and bubbly, summery, and unique. a wild version would be killer!
