Clear, golden color. Medium-sized, white head. Malt, honey, and hay in the aroma. Clean, malty taste with light hoppy bitterness and some fruitiness. Good.

12 oz can, dated 06.14.2023, poured into a 16oz tumbler glass. Enjoyed on 06.27.2023, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a pale, golden straw color, slight haze, lots of bubbles with a big foamy white head, good retention and nice spotted lacing. The aroma is good, very floral and fruity, soft dough and pale grain, earthy noble hop, mineral water. The flavors are good, berry fruits, bright melon, soft lemon citrus, floral and grassy, lightly herbal earthy hop, dough, pale grain and mineral water. The mouthfeel is good, coating, crisp, bright and lively medium body, dry but soft finish.

Verdict: A nice Kölsch from Middle Brow, clean, fragrant, bright, super easy and refreshing. Perfect for some yard work.

Undecipherable date code; drank 1/14/23 @ the Yarchives.

See-through pale yellow appearance.

A rough pour yielded a big off-white head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lace remained.

Fresh flowers & mild lemon notes in the nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

Lemon peel & fresh flower flavors. Simple, a bit dry, and enjoyable. Worth trying.

Pale yellow with slight haze and thin white head. Nose is floral with some slight grass. Taste follows the nose, floral hops up front followed by a pale white bread with some some red grape skin notes but ends on a smooth and dry floral bitterness. Body is light with light to medium carbonation. Overall a nice beer that’s balanced but nothing jaw dropping.

A unique experience for me. I entered into the BA database two Kolschs from Middle Brow on the same day. I drank both while eating their day old pizza (it was still flavorful on the second day.) I got to appreciate how the Kolschs (not a style that grew up around pizza) could be good with pizza. And I think I am about to guess why: Kolschs are a hybrid ale/lager and both go with pizza and Middle Brow brewed enough ales and lagers to know what pairs with their pizza. But, it was not an either/or decision... so they tried Kolschs. A good experiment. And poured it into my stange.

As for Yard Work, this did remind me of some lawnmower beers. While it has a decent foam, its color really doesn't Look like much. (Kolschs have some darker malts and Yard Work is very blonde.) Smells are average: grass and fruit, but not much aromatic malt. Tastes are very well-balanced and very suitable as a table ale... which is how I used it. The mouth is fine; medium to light, but bubbly enough to cleanse the palate for more food. Dry, clean finish from the lagering and the balanced use of hops.

I am a big fan of Middle Brow. I keep wanting to like their new mission of being a multi-yeast community-based re-fermentation (brew, bread, pizza) farm-to-table operation using sourcing in or just outside of Chicagoland. But I really wish they would focus on brewing. Yard Work worked well with their food; but really good Kolschs also should have a life of their own beyond food.

3/8/20 Bought Yard Work again with pizza and bread. I edited the above review and satisfied with it and am keeping count over at UnTappd.
