German-style Black Beer

A crisp, German-style black beer. It's a cold-weather Kölsch-ish. Dark, malty, like a chocolate milkshake, maybe. If such was clean and crisp and good around a bonfire, for stoking conversations.

Undated can; drank 4/22/23 @ the Yarchives.

Black/brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; decent lace.

Medium roast coffee & faint pine notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Medium roast coffee bean & mild pine flavors.

A decent Schwarz; kinda slight on the flavor but overall pleasant.

Bought my can from Beermiscuous. With only 14 ratings on Untappd and only a few cans, this was released first on tap and all were at Middle Brow's taproom. But ev'ryday deserves more distribution. I enjoyed it with a sandwich at lunch while watching the Badgers run Willie Wildcat out of Madison. So, ev'ryday made my mid-day Saturday better.

Nice to see a tan foam, dark body kolsch. Smells also depart from the style's pale tree-fruit; instead offering dark fruits and malts. Tastes are nicely balanced, roasty malts, chocolate semi-dry finish. Medium-mouthed, good enough for 4 ABV. A very pleasant Mild, really.

My 18th from Middle Brow, I have kinda a love-hate relationship. ev'ryday reinforces that. Here is a well-made beer with good social intentions. Middle Brow could be starting on a great recipe here, say, like Robyn... which I like very much, but never see. I live a mile from Middle Brow. But to grow, they need to get serious about distribution. Following their diverging strategy as a community-supported fermentation project (beer, bread, pizza, wine), they need to focus on their beer to pay for the others to grow... would be my guessed advice.
