Being born and raised in Sussex County, NJ I am shocked I had not gone to Angry Erik sooner. The last beer I tried on my visit was Viva Verde. The bartender asked if I wanted it "with or without a pepper" and I had to see what that was all about. The review is from my follow up home tasting. But yes, it was good and interesting enough to buy a 4-pack.
The initial look is underwhelming. A semi-clear amber with not a lot of haze. The head was a very light burnt orange in color. Mostly white but definitely a tinge of that brown/orange. It foamed well but did not last too long.
The smell I got from both a plain glass (no Jalapeno slice) and a glass with a freshly cut Jalapeno was spicy. Obviously spicier with the pepper slice. Not a lot of hop or fruit though.
I have to split the difference on the taste for Viva Verde. Without the pepper it is a lower 3 (3.25 or 3.5) but with a fresh cut Jalapeno it jumps to solid 4. So I land at 3.75. The spice overtakes the hop and fruit here as well. But that is what I'm expecting with this beer.
Much like the smell and taste the feel depends on how you take Viva Verde. Without a pepper it is light a little lacking. But add in that pepper and all the feels are there.
This was a unique tasting and hard review to do. Viva Verde was brewed with Jalapeno in mind and when you drink it with a freshly cute slice of pepper the beer is very good. Without the pepper and Viva Verde leaves a little to be desired. A solid 4 with the pepper and closer to a 3 without - I split the middle with a 3.5.

Jalepeno is very prominent here in smell and taste. Works well with the hops here. Tasty ipa.
