DATE: September 23, 2022... OCCASION: a crisp, cool start to Autumn deserves something Autumnal... GLASSWARE: Wychwood Hobgoblin pint... pours a dark, chestnut-brown body that supports a creamy, thick, ochre-brown head... sweet maple syrup, as promised, with equally sweet toasted bread malts... lighter nuttiness, subtle flowery hops, and butterscotch/toffee evokes a candy-like allure... some astringency on the draw, but it enters late; its medium-bodied and smooth approach offers a tea-like experience, soft and refreshing... metallic at the point of attack; grainier and nuttier than expected... sweet and malty, with toffee and sharp, almost stinging twang.... the nut and maple syrup are in the background, accentuating the candied aspects of this beer... this is enjoyable, drinkable in large quantities, and one I will seek out again next fall....
