Picked this up earlier this month at The Bottle King in Livingston, having never had anything from Angry Erik before. Not surprisingly, this was a typical take of an American Amber/Red Ale as it was low on alcohol, plenty malty, and easy to drink from start to finish. The flavor could have been a bit more full but in the end, this was a decent session beer.
Of course, this poured a deep ruddy brown as it was everything that one could ask for when coming out of the can, down to the thick and bubbly tan head that filled up much of my pint glass. That took it's time to settle but amazingly, there was no lacing to be seen aside from a thin segment of a wavy ring about a third of the way down my pint glass. Lots of malt, biscuit, and pear in the nose with a hint of farmhouse and bread in there too as the taste was clean, crisp, and nearly followed suit. A good amount of green apple and yeast emerged once this warmed up as the aftertaste was just as fall-like, outdoorsy, and just a hint sticky from the caramel.
There was enough body here for this to feel chewy and a bit doughy while the carbonation was light enough to keep this from feeling weighted down. No date was given on the bottom of the can as this was initially released over a year ago and I had no idea how old this was as it looked and tasted as fresh as could be. Although I'd rather have this in the fall, a beer like this would be fine year-round as it was unoffensive as could be, and as good an introduction to the style as one could find here in New Jersey. Glad I was able to give it a go!
