Brewery notes this is made with Ardennes yeast. The appearance is nice enough at, with a red-brown color, and a modest foam in the half-pint nonic. However the carbonation dissipates and reveals the bones. Very short on aromatics.
Overall this is surprisingly light, sharp, and not very malty tasting. It's oddly lemony and really dry, with a bitterish taste at the finish. Slightly woody. It's a tangy mouthful but so lightly carbonated. Not hard to drink but that scorched wood dryness gets old.
This is just the strangest excuse for a Dubbel. On tap at the brewery restaurant at 6th Ave and Lincoln in Denver.
