Cool place with a laid-back vibe. Industrial appearance with a large dining room/bar. Nice patio upstairs from the dining room. Plenty of games available to play while drinking. The ubiquitous TVs.
A dozen beers on tap. I had their flagship, LowDown IPA and it was excellent. My dessert beer was Whisky Dick, their IPA aged in whiskey barrels. Another nice beer. My wife had a Blood Orange Sour. She liked it so much she tossed down two before I had finished my first beer.
Food was excellent. My wife and I had the hummus appetizer: two different hummus, pitas, carrots, peppers, and cukes. The hummus selections rotate daily. We also split a veggie pizza, one of the best I've had. I continue to be impressed with establishments that have vegan options.
We sat at the bar. The bartender was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.

 

 

Very friendly bartenders and top quality brews. The brewmaster had some 2-3 year old imperial stout he brought out when another offering tapped out. Food was also excellent.

Vibe is nicely done. Large open area inside, plenty of room to spread out, and a nice large terrace outside just up the stairs from the main dining area.

Quality of the beers was a pretty pleasant surprise. Didn't have much expectations for this place, but I enjoyed both of the beers I tried. Selection was pretty good with 10 beers on tap, styles and variety were pretty much a standard ale lineup.

Service was good. The place was relatively busy, but we were quickly seated and served.

The food like the beer turned out to be a pleasant surprise, our whole group commented about enjoying their meals.

Overall, a nice place to check out if you are looking for food and beer.

Our very first stop when we finally rolled into Denver from Keene, NH !
The food was very creative and very yummy! Selection was good, 8 taps or so, very quality brews. Tasting amazing after two days and almost 2,000 miles.
Service was good and knowledgeable. Offering is samples and making excellent suggestions based on our taste.
The building is very modern, lots of glass but with an old timey bar feel as well.

Very fond of the APA the IPA. This is about half of what I drink on the whole, maybe more. I'm not sure the Belgian efforts have been quite as good but they certainly don't suck.

Only a 3.75 for selection because there isn't a huge selection; OTOH you can only get two beers at Orval, you know? (Three counting the aged Orval) By that I mean, I probably rated selection a little high because I didn't want it to unfairly drag down the whole rating. But there aren't, like, 15 beers on tap here, and of what is on the printed menu (usually somewhere around 8 beers, IIRC) it's not unusual for one to be out.

I think the food is really, really good and not just "good for a brewpub". A personal favorite is the El Blanco pizza, a white pizza (I guess the name sort of gives that away) very heavy on the goat cheese.

Someone on the "New Colorado breweries" thread mentioned the $5.75 charge for a basic beer, and I had forgotten that. I feel that merits "a bit pricey" for the "value" rating.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

brand new place on 8th and lincoln opened up by the brewers from rock bottom up in westminster. classy rustic looking downtown vibe, with that kind of clientele late on a friday night. long comfortable bar with a few televisions. friendly bartender generous with samples and chatty. there were seven or eight of their beers on, plus a few neat local guest taps. the most interesting as called selfish, a well hopped pilsener, pushing ipa. the tripel was also excellent, but the bourbon barrel imperial stout was a bit of a mess. i enjoyed sipping on beers all evening there, but i wished often for better music. a bit of a club vibe happening for a little while before sublime and some more groovy stuff finally came on. i didn't eat, but the food looked solid. something around five bucks a pint was fair for the quality, which was consistently high. odd mix of patrons, still finding an identity i think just a week or so into being open, but there is a lot of potential for the beer here. lots of fermenters in the front windows suggests many beers to come. they are just different enough to stand out, but in line enough not to alienate the fringe beer drinker. enjoyable spot to sling back a few brews.

edit: i have come to really love this place, some incredible pizza and other food, but also now doing better and more ambitious beers than they get credit for, including some cool barrel aged beers. they have become a staple of the community, great people and killer events, i love lowdown! they also have one of the best patios in the game!

A-LowDown is located near downtown Denver in a nondescript brick building that fronts one of the busier streets in town. Inside, the space is medium sized with a half dozen big, community tables and a number of smaller two- and four-tops. The decor is sort-of standard brew-pub industrial chic that mostly works with the visible brewing equipment that peaks out in the corners. The place was loud when we visited on an early Sunday evening on a nice February day. There is nothing bad about the vibe here...there just isn't anything good, either. It is sort of boring.

Q-My wife and I tried two LowDown beers, the APA and the Tripel, and both were tasty, but not perfect. The other house beers looked the part, but I will have to come back and taste them to give a better score. The three guest beers were a very solid lineup of Crooked Stave, Prost, and something else...I forget.

Ser-Our waitress was great: she was prompt and she wasn't afraid to tell us her opinions of the food and beer. She also knew the menu (beer and food). Our beers arrived in appropriate glasses and with good pours. Well-done for a new joint.

Sel-The LowDown has ten beers on tap, seven of which are house brews. The number is on the low side of the competition, but not entirely unreasonable. Maybe as they settle in they will offer more house or guest taps.

F-The food menu is split between appetizers, pizza, salads, and sandwiches. I can't comment on the pizza, but the appetizers, salad, and sandwiches were high quality. Good ingredients (especially the veggies) and nice preparation. It isn't fancy like Euclid Hall, but it is well above "bar" food like you might find at the Falling Rock.

V-The beer and food prices were slightly higher than I would have expected, but not outrageous considering the location.

O-This was a positive first visit and I look forward to going back.
