nobody makes beer like this anymore, i think they call it a mild ale, but by all counts its an esb, and a darn good one, frankly one of the best lowdown beers i have had in awhile, this one should stay on regular rotation. it has a nice bright copper color to it and an inch of slowly settling white foam, crystal clear and radiant in the glass, a really sexy pour. some sweetness immediately evident from the grain in the aroma, some toasty crystal malt and the distinctive bready maris otter, appealing and classic, very fresh. if this is an english ale yeast fermenting it, its awfully mild, or conditions were such that it didnt develop too much or lend a whole lot of character, but its clean in a pleasant way that makes this easier drinking than a lot of these are, not too dense. i get copper, raisin, honey, glazed doughnut, cereal dust, and the faintest bittering hop at the end. so clean and bright, amazingly drinkable and with a smooth and mellow mouthfeel. really great beer here, some of their best work to date! not enough good malty english ales around town, this is an instant classic for me.
