a pumpkin beer thats actually made with pumpkins! thats cool, seems like not enough of them are this fall, its all about the spices most of this time, and while this does have a cinnamon and nutmeg background character to it, i think the pumpkin is about as up front as it could be here, sweet sure, but squashy too, and just right with the well selected malts for this, bready, crystal, honey, english, pretty beer, clear too. aroma is light cinnamon, black pepper, and clove, with the earthy autumnal squash right there with it, light vanilla and maple and baked characteristics to it was well when i settle into the pint. this is so balanced and resolved, its never over spiced, never missing its earthy grounding, and never too heavy or sweet to be sessionable, which really matters in this style for me. cinnamon and grain to finish, the pumpkin sweetness fades, and its almost clean at the end. a really successful beer, not quite as deep and roasted and intense as some of them, but i like its more subtle approach, and i like the obvious pumpkin profile, not all pie spice. well done!
