an awesome belgian strong aged in cabernet barrels, super mature, a lucky leftover from their barrel aged event to encounter when i was in town, i was really impressed with this and its remarkably well refined for a one off barrel beer, way ahead of the curve, these guys never get enough credit from the nerds, but they sure will if they keep it up with this sort of thing. immaculately clear light bronze colored beer with a short head on it. aroma of oak and vanilla and wood tannins, with some dark berries and jam from the wine, an obvious vinous ester in with the belgian yeast too, nice wine and barrel integration in a well made belgian base. the yeast is well enough restrained to not take this over, but better, the barrels kind of compliment it, really dynamic and rich flavored beer, velvet textured but also effervescent, no trace of its strength, this drinks light for what it is, the quality is through the roof, and the flavor of the wine at the end is delightful, berries and cut flowers and wet oak. drinkable to a dangerous degree. this is fire, and way better than what i remember of their barrel aged beers of the past, not that those werent good, but this is next level. im happy for these guys!
