Got this along with nine others from JJ, completing an earlier trade. Can read, “Micro milk IPA brewed with lactose, oats and Motueka hops.” Very interesting. Only 3 pct. ABV. This one is going to be fun to try.
Poured a straw hazy color with two fingers f off-white frothy head. A few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Good watery lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Holy damn that smell was good from the get-go. Got sharp grapefruit, lime, lemon zest, pineapple, guava, papaya and lactose late. Probably a lot of Motueka hops, but still a rather new one for me. That smell was waiting to get out of the can for sure. Instantly became more oats and hay. Smelling the can was a little bitter, but oats and mango/guava offset each other. Probably would’ve been a 4.50 initially, but 3.50 after a few minutes. (Smell - 4.00)
Taste did not follow the nose. Wow, this was interesting. Kind of got woody notes from the beginning, maybe even some Comet. Or maybe that was the oats. Let’s go with woody oats. Seemed boozier than 3 pct. ABV. Also got nectarine, bitter mango rind, grapefruit, lime, lemon, guava and rather spoiled fruit. Didn’t notice any lactose taste. (Taste - 3.75)
Light-to-medium body. Thin texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Longer finish. (Feel - 4.00)
This for sure was the most interesting session IPA I’ve ever tried. Lots going on in such a little beer. Really got those oats. Will have to try some more Motueka. (Overall - 3.75)
