This one is a rich-looking medium-dark brown color with some thickness. The head is a light brown one of moderate height with good retention and pretty solid lacing overall.
The smell gives off some cocoa and just a bit of sweet fruits with no real tartness. The malts lay a solid foundation and only offer light roast, just enough to accentuate. The chocolate is more on the sweet side as opposed to the flavor. In interesting fashion, the first thing on the nose is a flash of something herbal, like heather, then the chocolate kicks in and it's like smelling a chocolate bar, rich and sweet.
The chocolate sets the foundation here, with just a little raspberry but enough to let you know it's there. I would like a little more, but it doesn't take away too much. The herb isn't present here.
The feel is a sturdy one, the body medium and showing the richness it should. It could use a little more boldness to get to the higher status. Carbonation lends it crispness that the chocolate seems to cut and smooth.
