12/22/15 at the brewery
This stout is appropriately dark, displaying a good body and a very dark brown color that lets some light in at the edges. The head is just off-white, a half-finger head of bubbly foam with good retention and lacing overall.
The sweetness mingling with malts make this one extremely tasty at the get-go, some lactic sugars proving this one to be a milk stout and making the complement to the roasty malts work even better. Adding to that roastiness, of course, is the coffee from Syracuse local cafe Kubal, and they know how to roast coffee. It gives it a complexity as well as a sort of chocolatey note underneath it all. My only lament is that the fantastic flavor fades at the end of the sip. The aroma doesn't fall off too much, though.
The body is appropriately rich, not insanely heavy like American brewers tend to make theirs, but thick and boasting enough heft to be called a stout. Milk stouts aren't as heavy (generally) to begin with, so this easily fits within the appropriate range for body. It's good and smooth with just a bit of crispness to it. Very nice, one of my favorites from Eastwood.
