Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a medium, copper amber with a quarter finger white head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of mildly grainy malt, wheat, honey, apple and a hint of lemon. Flavor is grainy and biscuit malt, apple, hints of funk and honey; an odd burnt toast flavor in the finish. Medium bodied, a bit light on carbonation. An overall familiar domestic take on the saison style, but with little Belgian yeast character. The malt has the appropriate graininess, but mixed with some unexpected dry biscuit, which is an interesting change. Light fruit notes and a little honey, although the flavor is rather drier than the honey forward aroma. The finish is unusual with a mild smoky, burnt toast note. Interestingly different, but probably won't knock any more traditional saisons off my list.
I reluctantly added this as a new saison for this brewery due to the five year old reviews, different name and lack of ABV listing on the existing saison listing.
