Briar is a sour ale fermented with blackberries and raspberries, and aged in oak barrels with Brettanomyces. Pouring an intensely bright red, Briar has an aroma and taste that is reminiscent of raspberry jam with a delicious tart finish.

The beer pours a bright, sparkling red that is very bright and exceptionally clear. It is a bit effervescent looking. Very pretty beer.
Smell is fruit and you can end the discussion there. I wouldn't immediately pick blackberry and raspberry, but certainly berry. Lightly sour, not finding much in the way of Brettanomyces character.
This is not a complicated beer. The taste is fruit forward, there seems to be minimal intrusion from the Brett, there is some oak dryness. It is mildly sour which again seems driven by the fruit, and a bit of phenolic sting on the back of the taste. The tea thing I typically find with berries is present, but just a bit.
It seems a little thin, almost weisse-like light. Dry finish, not as effervescent on the tongue as it looks.
Overall, I like the beer. Nice and bright, mildly sour, fruit aplenty. I think to carry as much flavor as its attempting, it could be a bit more substantial to help deliver the big fruity flavors.

16 oz bottle poured into tulip glass at brewery.
A: Nice red, purple body with good clarity, looked like the color of watered down crushed berries. Head was a slightly off white red/purple color that settled quickly.
S: Lots of berries without guessing I would have said raspberry and strawberry with a little perfumey smell thrown in.
T: Lots of raspberry and blackberry with a little light strawberry and some tartness and a little bit if a watery end with some wheat and grain.
M: Fairly thin body with so so carbonation.
O: The body really made this beer stand out to me in not a good way, it needed a little bit more body to make the flavor pop. Overall liked the light bit of sourness and the berry flavors were good.

The beer was a very nice darker strawberry or raspberry color with a light reddish head that was not that well retained. The beer have off a light sour aroma, pleasant and not overpowering. Good tart taste. The blackberries and raspberries were not overpowering. Light feel and refreshing and very nice easy to drink. Overall very nice.
