Canned Spring 2022
When I went up to Allagash with ny buddy a few months ago for their cellar tour, we also stopped in some of the other breweries on that street. This one was calling my name, tequila and mezcal barrel aging seems like an odd choice for a Barleywine, but I’m all about it. Let’s get into it
Pours an opaque brown/orange with a finger of beige head that fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing. Lots of particulate floating about
The nose here really reminds me more of something that was port casked, though there’s some tequila notes here. I’m picking up aromas of burnt sugar, red grape, smooth oak, vanilla, apple skin, agave nectar, sweet caramel, black pepper, and candied orange
It trends a bit sweeter in taste, but everything is still mostly in check. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting apple skin, sweet honey, smooth oak, agave nectar, orange marmalade, sweet caramel, light red grape, and light lime zest. The swallow brings notes of sweet honey, apple skin, charred oak, candied orange, vanilla, dry oak, light smoke, and raisin
A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick and boozy beer. Finishes mostly dry though the beer itself is sweet
This doesn’t exactly scream tequila and mezcal, but it has some nice notes from that. A solid sipper
