Can date was hard to find, but found it, 2020/12/13
Pours a tan fizzy almost 1 finger head with med to lower retention, a touch of lacing, very dark basically black color, bit of legs

Nose brings nice dark roasty malts, charred dark malts, some roasted coffee, lots of baking spice and anise, some very dark chocolate, cocoa, a bit of nougat, fudge, caramel, hint of spicy hop, reminds me of Abyss

Taste brings more of the anise up front, baking spice and that licorice anise but not overpowering, some spicy earthy hops kick in, the malts, dark roasted malts, a touch of char and smokey notes, dark dark chocolate and cocoa, a little fudgey nougat, a hint of a fruity character in the background, med-lighter bitterness from roast and spicy hops, med dry but sticky finish, a bit of smooth alcohol, spicy hops, licorice, and some dark malts lingering

Mouth is fuller bod, soft creamy like, med creamy carb, touch of warming alcohol

Overall solid RIS, like I mentioned before reminds me of Abyss but a bit on the lighter side overall, still nice beer

Bought a 4 pack last February or so. The first one had a slight sour edge to it. So did the second. Not enough to ruin it, but enough to keep it from being yummy. I let it age.

The rest of the beer is quite good. There's layers, there's a slight stickyness, there's a wonderful full bodied richness. 8 months later, a lot of the tart edge is gone. I like it more now. Was this a one batch thing? This is a great brewery, so do try it if you have the opportunity. Not enough well crafted RIS out there, so I hope they put out another one this winter.

From can to tulip canned ~2/14/20.

L: Pours jet black with a big, frothy tan head that sticks around for a few minutes. Thins to a dark tan ring, leaving significant lacing.
S: Australian licorice; raw, fresh cut wood; raisins/cherries/usual dark fruits; dark chocolate; leather
T: Roasted malts, bitterness; a healthy touch of pine shines through as well - not too sweet, at least initially
F: Solid round mouthfeel; moderate carb
O: Pleasant to drink - not at all sweet, which doesn't make it a slog to get through

Grabbed a wax sealed 16.9 oz bottle in Burlington during recent Vermont Beer Safari. One of 450 released. About 5 lmonths old then; 4 months more in my cellar.
Wanted to try Four Quarters per recommendation at Foam brewpub.
Found this a very good RIS. Surprised it was not BA... as the vanilla was prominent. Toasty but not harsh; sweet but figgy not sugary. Nicely complex. Initial pour big and black; had huge creamy tan head but it disappeared with little lacing. Full nose and taste. Initially a bit bright with carbonation but this quickly softened to more velvety. Beer improved as it approached room temp. All in all a well made and very nice sipper.

Bought semi randomly tonight. Saw the score, was looking for something new and went for it. Poured at room temp and holy cow this caught me by surprise. Really complex and great stout!

This one pours an inky dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like roasted malt, dark chocolate, fig, raisin, caramel, and light hops.

This is really quite good, nearly exceptional. It's got a great sweetness to it, equal parts dark fruit and equal parts caramel, with an exceptional fudgy dark chocolate backbone, and a hint of roasty bitterness, and some hoppy bitterness as well. All of the parts of a good RIS are in perfect balance here. There's no sign of the ABV or any booziness,

This is pretty thick and chewy, with a creamy and silky mouthfeel, and a surprisingly high level of drinkability for 10% ABV.

This is definitely one of the better beers I've had from Four Quarters so far. It's quite excellent.
