Four Quarters Brewing CO. "Tomcat-Gin Barrel Aged Moscow Mule"
on tap @ The Mule Bar, Winooski, VT on 6 June 2016
$8 / 12 oz., 4.7% ABV
Notes: "Saison brewed with ginger and lime zest, hopped with Watuka, and aged in Barr Hill TomCat gin barrels". Nail polish (ethyl acetate) in the aroma is unfortunate. The gin does come through though, meaning a ghost of the botanicals and wood (I had no idea Gin was barrel-aged). As do the ginger and lime. The esters are off-putting, but beyond that there's balance, rather than alcoholic heat, and it is rather interesting. At the least, it does mimic a "Moscow Mule", so they've got that down, although the Gin character seems a bit extraneous. Hopefully the problem with the Ethyl acetate is a single batch issue as I think the concept is great.

Very awesome brew. I think the gin adds ton to the beer. I thought the lime, ginger, and juniper all came through. I might giving tons of point for originality and creativity but I am ok with that. This was a great change of pace saison.
