Nice level of sour, and the taste matches the smell well. Surprisingly sessionable.

good looking beer, glowing hazed straw color with a fizzy bright white head that quickly recedes. honestly the nose is where this really shines, massive fresh basil aromas and a roasted tomato note that brings some sweetness to match some funky and almost spicy farmhouse qualities. on palate is some mellow tartness, earthy quality and big robust fresh basil notes, reminds me of a super fresh and herbal summer salad, some grassy and slightly funky hay flavors.

this is a cool beer, but the base beer leaves just a little something to be desired. cool to put these two flavors, which of course are like salt and pepper in the culinary world, together finally in a beer, the first i have seen, and neat to have a saison as a base instead of some generic wheat beer. its pretty flat on the pour, same as the saison itself was, and thats not what i like to see in the style. pale slightly red in color, but mostly still. it smells great and the flavor is almost as intense. true tomato, not sure how they added it, but its there, juicy and summery, and the basil is right there with it, herbal and fresh, the genovese type i would think, very forward and fresh. i love it. its like a liquid caprese with out cheese. again though, the beer really needs more life from carbonation to make the feel fit the flavors and the vibe, but i cant be too harsh on this overall because its original as can be and super good. not as yeasty or even as puckery as the regular saison was, but it doesnt need to be, wheat gives it enough body and the yeast is pleasantly interesting without getting in the way of the feature ingredients. nice one!
