Dated 1/14, opened 3/27
Appearance:
Pours a golden/straw brown with bubbly lacing and minimal visual carbonation. Pretty opaqueness with a mild haze.
Nose:
Lemon and orange aromas sits on top a very enjoyable mix of gin and sourdough. A succulent, pepper-seasoned aroma with crisp apple comes out as the beer sits.
Taste:
Opens tasty and crisp with lemon juice, citrus peel, Granny Smith apple, peach, and perhaps even strawberry. Quickly gives way to fair-cooked bread crust. Aftertaste sneaks in with slight bitterness, dryness, and a bit of black pepper. Gin really starts to come in here. There is a notable but not unpleasant citrus sweetness throughout that reminds me of an Arnold Palmer. Perhaps it’s the gin flavor, but there is a slight taste of alcohol as well.
Overall:
Although they’re not my favorite flavors, the potent lemon and slight pepper feel true to the style and interact pleasantly with the flavors of the gin barrels. I found that the more savory aspects of this beer come out the longer it rests. Another fun experience from a wonderful brewer.
