Pours gem clear with reddish mahogany highlights (SRM 20-23). The head forms a tight two inches of beige foam that lasts a few minutes before settling to a thick blanket. Patchy lace forms, while no active carbonation can be seen within the Pretentious Glass Company spun glass pint.
The aroma opens with strong roasted malt. Brazil nuts and mild sweetness follow, while some soapiness holds it back. Warming reveals very faint smoke.
The flavor has neutral bitterness and sweetness, both quite mild. Cocoa powder comes just ahead of toasted malt that verges on being roasted. Pine nuts take the place formerly held by Brazil nuts. It has a long finish that adds blackberries to the mix.
This had a medium to full body and starts out silky smooth, becoming creamy after the last two ounces are added to the glass. There is an odd oiliness that seems to hold the carbonation back. Alcohol is as expected.
While some marks are a bit low as it is reviewed per style, the beer itself is an enjoyable and well done Brown Ale. I could see a few rounds with buddies. However, I am enjoying it on a bitterly cold and snowy afternoon.

Solid american brown ale with plenty of foamy frothy head with great lacing. Tastes of smoke and subtle maple syrup that's balanced with smooth hops. Very good!
