I have simply been running through some of my backlog for the past couple of months, but as the end of the Summer break approaches, I am looking to become a little more focused. I just had a beer or two from CANshohocken, but having just drank a Gose rom someone else, I now feel like drinking this Berliner Weisse. It is a CANQuest (tm) thing, so don't feel badly if you don't CANprehend what is happening.

From the CAN: "GO Where the Path Takes You"; "Blueberry Berliner Weisse is our spin on the classic German sour style. Brewed with over 8 pounds of blueberry purée per barrel, our Berliner Weisse is flavorful, tart and refreshing."

I did some in-CAN agitating before Crack!ing open the vent on this one. I have had Berliner Weisses before & cloudiness is not an issue, plus I wanted to ensure that the blueberry adjuncts were back in suspension. My C-Line Glug was more heavy-handed than usual but in spite of this, it was still not producing much head. I CANtinued to pour until my glass was full, but the beer never produced any head of which to speak. Color was a hazy pinkish-Amber (SRM = N/A), like freshly squeezed Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice. Nose was unquestionably blueberry! It was certainly tart to go with them, but it was definitely blueberries driving this one. Mouthfeel was kinda thin & watery, about par for the course. The taste was tart & blueberry, reminding me of my youth when blueberries were my favorite. Now, they are a seCANd to strawberries, but that is CANother story. The tartness was less puckering as lip-smacking. Each sip was a ChANce to purse my lips & CANtemplate the blueberries' presence in the beer. It is not a traditional adjunct, but it was a tasty one, IMHO. My other CANsideration was their claim that it was refreshing. That is what has been driving most of my choices in drinking this Summer. I want light, refreshing beers that are also tasty. I am still NOT a Hefeweizen fan so I am CANstantly looking elsewhere. This really hit the spot! It had a nice blueberry flavor, it was tart without being like liquid alum & it was not wild in terms of its ABV. Finish remained tart & refreshing & I remained CANfident that I had made the right choice in drinking this one in the face of todays heat & humidity.

Appearance - Pours cloudy light purple color with nice white head that quickly settles to a thin ring. Few dots of lacing.

Aroma - Huge tart blueberry, vanilla, it really smells like blueberry cobbler. Light salt, great tart/sweet nose.

Taste - The blueberry it pretty watered down nothing like the nose. Mild blueberry, salt, wheat the taste is what I expected before the nose. The aroma is so good the taste while still good is a let down.

Feel - Light bodied dry good carbonation.

Overall - The nose is money, taste is a nice salty blueberry berliner.

The color of the beer is SRM 5 a pale gold color with some light pinkish hues. The beer's head is a frothy dense white with poor retention. The clarity of the beer is mostly clear with a touch of haziness. The beer does present with a lot of effervescent.

The initial aroma of the beer is tart apples and berries with a touch of lemon. Additional aromas I detect is bread, yeast, grain, and floral.

The beer has a clean wheat and berry flavor accented with tart apples and lemon. Furthermore, the beer is light wheat, bread, yeast, and lightly floral.

The mouthfeel of the beer is light, high carbonation, a medium-light dryness, and a medium-light finish.

The beer is super clean, light body and easily sipped. This beer would help quench the thirst on a hot day in the summer. I did not pick up much berry notes, but the beer does have a pleasant fruitiness.

Conshohocken Brewing Co. "Blueberry Berliner Weisse"
$2/4 oz. on tap @ Conshohocken Brewing Co. - Bridgeport Brewpub on 19 August 2017

Look: Very hazy pink body beneath a very short head of bright white that immediately fades to a thin collar and leaves very little lacing behind - which is fairly common for the style.
Smell: Fruity but non-descript, and mineralish.
Taste: Tartish but not too tart, and hardly sour. Again, fruity but not clearly "blueberry". Dry, gently acidic finish with some lingering mineral and fruit.
Feel: Light bodied and gently crisp.
Overall: Nicely balanced, and not overdone. It's a Berliner-style weiss that has blueberry added, not a "blueberry beer". Refreshing.
