I have tried the entire Ivin’s series except for the IPA which doesn’t fit at all. What Ivin’s cookie is bitter and disgusting? This is one of my favorites.
I guess I thought of Cherry Coke Zero when I poured it into a 16 ounce Dollar Tree clear glass mug. Foam leaves fast except some subtle soda type lacing.
Smell is heavy on the cherry not too artificial. Some chocolate and chocolate malts.
Taste to me is exactly like the nose. Nothing bittern nothing harsh. Chocolate maybe is stronger than expected.
Feels rich, heavy but paradoxically light - regarding carbonation, that is.
Overall I dig it. I have been munching on Ivin’s here in Philly since I was a wee lad. I am happy to see these at the Acme off Snyder Ave or Oregon Ave.

A pour from a pint can fits nicely into a clear glass Imperial pint mug. The total visual is quite similar to a cola soda, only just a little darker brown-caramel. The head performed just like a cola soda, effervescent, sparkling and very short-lived. Cherry dominates the chocolate and malt contributions to the nose, but all are included. Even for a porter, this drinks a little too flatly. What happened to the carbonation that provided such a sparkling head? Also, something happened to the cherry dominate aroma. Both chocolate and roasted malt bring a bigger taste profile here. All of the various taste inputs are pleasantly pronounced enough and also subtle enough to enjoy. Although it has its flaws, the flatness of the mouthfeel is by far the most egregious. Of course porters aren't supposed to among the highly carbonated styles, but this really needs a little lift. Other than that, maybe a little more cherry flavor to better balance the malt and chocolate, but that may just be to personal taste. This is a nice try that doesn't quite succeed; however, its not terrible and here's hoping this series continues.
