a really hearty and very well made porter, i was super impressed with this one, and it ranks among my favorite dark beers i have had in idaho so far. its got a really full spectrum malt base, with the dark barley up front, but also with some nice chocolate and dry cocoa character, a little spicy earthiness from some rye i would think, and a rich sweetness from a crystal or honey type in the middle, sort of an english vibe as well, maybe some maris otter in here as well, lots happening, but a very cohesive aroma and flavor thats true to style but just a bit more interesting than a lot of these ever are, very multidimensional and dynamic. its cool as it warms up too, as i taste different elements of it at different times throughout the drink, warming up really well. smooth in feel with a pretty big body on it, i am surprised how low the alcohol is here too, it just feels bigger. a bit of sweetness at the end, but nice balance from the roast too. really flavorful porter, a beer good enough to go back here for, i really dug this, cant make sense of its low ratings here...

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at the brewery.
Appearance: rich dark hue with a finger of tan foam. Good.
Smell: sweet and a little roasty with a little chocolate. Pretty interesting!
Taste: chocolatey with plenty of sweetness. A bit on the sweet side for me, but in general not bad.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: a totally serviceable porter. You could do a lot worse.

On tap at the brewery. The sheer abundance of grains smooths out a lot of the normal bitterness. Soft aroma and taste, minimal finish. All of the grains blend well to give this porter a very smooth character.

Pours a dark brown with tannish head that rises up and dies back leaving spotty lacing. Nose shows sweetish chocolate/roasty malt... Flavor is balanced bitterness with a rounded background bittersweet chocolate element... Very drinkable and I normally don't like porters, but this one is well done.
3.5's across the board.
