they are calling this oktoberfest marzen at the brewery right now, but it has to be the same beer. its excellent stuff, classic and true to style, and for all the experimentation and cool flavors and stuff these guys do, its nice to see such a well executed beer in a traditional style like this, with close attention to detail and no playing around with it. its rusty orange color, clear in the glass, and sporting a high rising frothy head, looks the part. aroma and flavor are nice and nutty from the malt, a vienna complexion to it but without the sugar, that kilned toasted sort of warmth, but then its fermented to crisp and clean with a flavorful lager yeast strain that dries everything out and brings great balance to the brew. its a simple flavor profile really, but the beer is good and fresh, and the proportions are just right, as is the lagering, patient and clean, and that yields a really drinkable beer. fine carbonation, medium body, hearty feeling without the weight of some, lightly bready, a honey note too, very tasty this time of year.

Cloudy copper orange with small foamy ring of a head. Nice malty aroma and taste, very smooth and silky, reminds me of fall in Germany. Well done festbier.

Out of all the beers I had tonight at Cloud 9, I had the highest hopes for this one. I love a well made German lager.
Pours a mostly clear amber... Head shows as a standard light khaki but dies back almost instantly and lacing is nonexistent.
Nose is sweet and malty but doesn't really have much in the way of malt complexity... just one dimensional malt.. hints of toastiness, but not enough.
Flavor mirrors the palate with a sweet maltiness that never jives with anything else.. and the hop bitterness really needs to be ramped up..
Body is fine.
I REALLY wanted to like this one more.. Hopefully better next year.
