this is a fine base stout, even good, but i really didnt get salted caramel out of it too much. instead its just sort of sweet, sweeter even than the stout would be on its own, maybe trace vanilla in here, and a light tang from the salt coming through, but caramel is a stretch for me, much as the beer still is sweet and desserty overall. its a tough concept to execute, as i would imagine the caramel to be mostly fermentable, meaning the beer either has to be sweet or lots of that flavor has to me chewed through, and in this case its both. its heavy on the palate, lots of body and density here, and not a whole lot of carbonation. if you like a sweeter stout though, this has some cool features, a toffee long cooked note to the grain, a bit of milk chocolate, and then the saltiness that i can appreciate more and more as this warms up. looking for salted caramel left me a little disappointed, but just enjoying it as a stout is easy. overall a neat idea and a solid stab at it, the innovation here has been exciting lately, even if this isnt one i would rush back here for...

edit: i liked this a little better in my most recent visit, still sweet but not as intensely so to me, and a but more of the saltiness coming out now, perhaps a little more refined this time through too overall, still desserty but with more flavor toward the salted caramel now, i can appreciate that part a little easier. raising the taste score to reflect the improvement in the latest batch.

Has a lot of brown going on for a stout. Has a lesser colored brown head, 1/4" deep. Aroma of roasted and caramel. Not picking up the salt in the aroma, but I dunno that you should, it prolly should just be a nuance that you pick up in the mouth feel, not something that dominates the roasted malt, which is noticeable.

Taste is alright, seems mild for a stout, bitterness seems a little high as well, like I'm already wishing they made an oatmeal version of this so it would be a little thicker and smoother. Mouth feel is ok, thought it would be easier, more enjoyable to drink, but its just normal underroasted and not enough malt. Salt aspect was not overdone thankfully. I think I'd rather just smell this one. Drank while pregaming for Tom Petty with Chrystal Carver (plowed more than the fields around Lovelock) in Boise 2014.

On tap at the brewery. The salted caramel smooths out the rough edges, making this one sn easy drinker. Normal aroma and taste for a stout. Pretty good stuff.

Salted caramel stout... Nice dark brown head looks like the cap on an espresso... Nutty and light roasty notes.. caramel/fermented out toffee if I concentrate and no real saltiness except perhaps something to compliment the nutty maltiness. A little thin on the palate and just because a brewery labels something an "Imperial Stout" doesn't mean that it is anything close to one... Do your self a favor and change your branding. I can call my Hyundai a Ferrari but I still drive a Korean tin-can. Despite my above negatives, this is actually a pretty tasty brew.
