on their printed menu it was called ginger dunkelweizen, and listed at 7.3% abv, but still also described as a winter wheat, im sure more or less the same thing, a few brewers have been through here and some batch variance is to be expected. it does not have much of a yeast profile to me, maybe a little clove note to it, but that could be the ginger playing the the richer malt too, that might be the distinction making it more of a dark wheat ale than a dunkelweizen specifically, but we are approaching splitting hairs here. slightly cloudy amber copper color, very short lived head, all the beers we had this time through didnt hold much head. it smells like a load of fresh ginger though, super authentic, spicy, earthy, juicy, and almost medicinal to me, perfect for a cold and somber winter evening when spirits were running especially low. i like the little bit of malt sweetness in the flavor balancing some of its obvious intensity, and how simple overall the beer seems. slight nuttiness, a hint of fresh baked banana bread, and enough ginger to get up into the sinuses a bit, brown sugar and dark bread on the swallow. it could use more carbonation but i like the body, and overall this is a tasty and unconventional fall to early winter seasonal that i think makes great sense. not technically masterful, but clever enough to offset that. worth a try!

Hazy orange, white head doesn't stick around for very long... Starting to wonder if their glasses are rinsed clean. Sweetish residual malts magnify the perceived ginger, but honestly the spicing is pretty light... Not bad, but just not my cup of beer. The beers at cloud 9 recently all have a very sweet finish that makes me think they are not going to finish... The residual maltiness adds too much of thickness and the bubble just doesn't cut through it.
