Overshores Belgique du Noire is a black roasted Belgian. What stands out though is the Noire’s smoothness. Unlike many black beers, the Noire exhibits no smokey bitterness whatsoever. The Belgique du Noire is rich and smooth. Perfect for pairing with a chocolate dessert.

2014 vintage
Pours a small fizzy bubbly head with lower retention, little lacing, dark molasses brown to blackish color
Nose sweet, molasses, caramelized candi sugar, biscuity, rich brown molasses, toffee, dark fruits with fig, date, raisin, rum, hint of chocolate, sweet bread crust
Taste similar, molasses all around, dark fruits, sweetened fig, candied date, rum raisin, candi sugar and toffee, sweet bread crust with touch of chocolate coffee, light bitterness spicy hop, light perfumey alcohol, hint of wine oxidation, more chocolate and roast on the finish
Mouth is fuller bod, rich, bordering syrupy, med frothy carb, light warming alcohol
Overall nice Belgian strong, but lacks the dark malt to really be called a stout I feel, although the finish brings more of the roast and bitterness

Full disclosure - not a fan of this style and that biases my review. However, I suspect fans of stouts will enjoy this strong ale. Definitely Belgian style. Looks like a stout with larger bubbles. Lacing sticks. Aroma is a nice citrus/malt mix. Dark and smoky with a very smooth finish. Glad I tried.

Bought two of these, one direct from the brewery. It's a nice corked bottle, but you'll need a corkscrew as it doesn't just pop out with some light pressure like a champagne.
Nose is toasted malt. A half inch of head that keeps well. Dark brown color, almost black. Looks impressive. The packaging and pour (and price!) set up high expectations. But the taste just isn't there. It's smooth, medium-body, clean finish. But nothing all that discernible or satisfying that makes you want to have another sip and then one again. Husband feels the same way. The brewery had been holding onto this for over a year, saying it improves with age. It's certainly a beer that has held up, but it just seems to lack the knock-out character that one would expect for such a touted release.

This one missed the mark for me. There was nothing discernibly unique or interesting about this beer. Overall, it was thin and lackluster on the palate. With other beers available in its style at a more favorable price point, I think I would skip this beer on future visits.

Poured into a tulip..dark amber colour, not black..very little head..sweet chocolate aroma with a bit of yeast, bananas and spicy clove. Has a medium body..smooth mouthfeel, not sticky thick or creamy.. Pretty great chocolate roasty flavours with no really bitterness, a bit of bananas and spicy yeast..a slightly drying, fruity hop taste comes in at the end.. Overall its an interesting take on an imperial stout.. Kinda more of a Belgian inspired imperial brown, Or even a dark barleywine..tasty! No complaints here, perhaps the best beer from Overshores yet.
