Sampling a cold growler poured into a snifter. The beer was purchased at the brewery a few days ago. While not listed here, the beer is 10% ABV.
The beer pours a clear chestnut hue with very minimal head, actually none to speak of only seconds after the beer is in the glass. the lack of head is probably due to the size of the beer, but was hoping for a little foam.
The aroma is fairly fruity up front with some banana and darker fruit plums. I also get honey, brown sugar and molasses. Christian the owner told me the beer has jaggery included as a fermentable instead of the usual candi sugar and some of the scents and flavors I get are due to this use of fermentable.
the first sip reveals an average body with fine slightly tingly carbonation and a sticky texture that coats my palate after each sip.
Flavor is sweet as the nose advertised with brown sugar and dark fruit again. A bit of grainy malt too, generally sweet and some honey notes again. The ABV is hidden and drinks very easy, maybe a little dangerously easy. I dont get any hop presence on this brew and am enjoying the malt profile.
I definitely feel the 10% towards the end of the growler. Recommended if you like bigger Belgian style brews.
