Sampling a cold growler poured into a snifter. the beer is fresh from the brewery and Im excited to try it. First off the pour gives me a hazy amber to copper pour. This isnt a typical witbier as categorized here, the brewery listed as a Belgian Red Wheat ale. I pour slightly aggressively and get a rocky cream colored head of 3 cm that fades gradually as my glass rests on the table. The foam leaves windowpane lattice as it recedes to the surface.
The aroma is a little caramel and then a good dose of wheat twang and some distinct white wine or white grape scents, from the Nelson Sauvin hops I believe.
First sip reveals an average body with crisp texture and fine, almost prickly carbonation. The flavor is some brief sweet fruitiness, with white grapes and some berry notes mixing with caramel and a bit of bready yeast. Makes for a sort of scone type flavor experience. I have a lingering mild sweetness and then a bit of grassy or resiny hop quality comes in. I dont get anything from booze and find the beer very easy to drink. Dont expect a witbier, and if you are at the brewery that is evident from the tap list description. A nice wheat brew that has some increased complexity. A solid interesting beer.
