Batch #2, 22 ounce bottle direct from the brewery.
Not sure where the 8% came from, but the bottle I have has 5.75% ABV clearly printed on the label. There's a hand-written "Batch #2" on a designated spot on the side, so maybe batches are varying, but the label is pre-printed as if they're expecting following batches to match.
Hand Crafted and Unfiltered on the label.
A -- Deep, dark chestnut with ruby highlights and a dense light tan head.
S -- Citrus fruit esters with an orange zest character, caramel notes behind the esters.
T -- Good balance of roasted malts with citrus fruit esters up front. Some spicy hops in the finish with an almost orange juice character, light roasted malts in the aftertaste. Some mild phenolic comes through with warming, but it's not distracting.
M -- Mouthfeel is rather light and spritzy (probably due to bottle conditioning) and the body is quite light.
O -- Not my favorite style by any means, but following "guidelines" this is just what one should expect in an American Brown Ale, while being a little light in body and mouthfeel. If you like a good American Brown, with it's citrus-to-roasted malt characters, and want a fresh example, seek out this new beer from a very small micro north of Chicago.
