Refreshing beer of choice, "La Givrée" is an atypical white beer. Light and not very sweet, it is perfect to quench your thirst. Its hopping is very present, and draws naturally towards aromatic notes of sweet citrus.

A white beer like you have never drunk, perfect for cooling off or for aperitifs in the sun

My third from Sutter (all imported into the Barnes box at Costco.) I have to give Sutter credit for inventiveness in the other two and particularly La Givree'. It may be the only dry witbier I can remember. Different in other ways also. Clearer than cloudy. Citrus is lemon to my nose, but orange to my Taste. More bitter than I prefer in a wit. Yet, light and refreshing. Paired well with spanakopita and cut through the butter.

My last of the European Collection Costco box. I'd like to have Givree and much of the Barnes box again. A good way to bring European micros to this continent.

This beer is a beautiful hazy pale color and so much head that it piles up in the glass like a scoop of meringue. It's going to last the entire time it takes to drink it, and leaves a lot of lacing on the glass.

This is a lighter ale, kind of dry and a little tart. There's a little bit of astringency and noticeable bitterness. Overall, I thought it wasn't bad, just not my thing, and that the balance could be better... bitter, dry, tart... any two are fine, but all three is a challenge.

Brasserie De Sutter "La Givrée"
500 ml can "BEST ENJOYED BEFORE: LOT:378 08/2025". Sampled on 26 February 2024.
$29.99/12-pk European Beer Collection @ Costco, Christiana, DE

Notes via stream of consciousness: So this is a "FRENCH WHITE PALE ALE" but is it done in the Belgian style? It's poured a hazy straw-gold body with plenty of activity within, bolstering its pillowy bright white head. There is a light touch of woody spiciness in the aroma, and a hint of citrus, so perhaps it is a Belgian-style witbier. Regardless, it's fresh and welcoming so on to the tasting we go. The wheat is clear, and I'm getting the same woody spiciness and citrus found in the nose although this time it's clearly orange. There's also some phenolic spiciness, and along with a moderate bitterness of around 25 IBUs it finishes quite dry and refreshing. The spiciness lingers but eventually fades to leaves some spotty, residual notes of citrus (orange, lemon) and underlying vanilla. The body is medium-light, and it's quite crisp with a carbonation level around 2.6 volumes of CO2/liter. Despite the extra bit of carbonation the head retention wasn't great, and the lacing is only good. It doesn't turn my head but it's better than many of the French white beers that I've sampled.

From the can, it pours a hazy very light yellow color with a very nice white head that slowly reduces and leaves lacing. The nose gets the white beer spiciness and light malt. The mouth follows with a bit of spiciness and light malt. Easy drinking.
