On tap at JT Schmid's.

A: Amber with good transparency and a thick creamy beige head.

S: Caramel and the faintest essence of grapefruit. Bread dominates.

T: Bread and earth with a whisper of spiciness (unexpected). Not much else to report. Pretty bland.

M: Medium body with medium carbonation.

Overall: JT Schmid's knocks another one out of the park (sports humor is welcome at JT Schmid's).

On-tap at JT Schmid's in Tustin

A: The beer pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head.

S: Starts off with mild caramel, toffee, and toasted bread. There is a decent bit of yeast to the nose. A little bit of hop aroma, mostly earthy and spicy with a little bit of a floral note to it.

T: The flavor is very heavily toasty. In fact, there's a slightly burnt flavor on back end. There is some sweet toffee and creamy caramel. The hop notes are mostly floral with a light earthiness.

M: The body and carbonation are both medium.

O: Pretty run of the mill amber ale, probably a bit below average.

On tap at the JT Schmid's Brew Pub located in Anaheim, CA.

Poured a deeper amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of caramel with some citrus. Tastes of caramel, citrus, and some floral hoppiness. There was some light lacing left on the glass.

Pours a reddish amber. No real head (none of their beers seem to have any: strange).

Smells like ... some caramel malt, I guess. Taste has a bit of earthy bitterness for balance, but this is not a strong tasting beer whatsoever. Too watery.

JT Schmid is pretty hit or miss, apparently. I'd stick to the IPA and Stout.

Consumed at brewery, 02/29/08.

Medium amber color. Very clear. Tiny bubbles lead to thin skin of foam.

Faintest trace of sweet grain aroma.

Sweet caramel flavor. After beer goes down, bashful hop bitterness peeks in for a second before dissipating.

A little weaker and less interesting than I like.

This beer seems to be the brewpub's unofficial flagship beer. I guess Grampa is to blame for this. Amber (almost identical to the IPA) with a thin light beige head. Minimal lacing. Aroma was lightly malty. The flavor was smooth malt but kind of weak and had just a hint of hops in the finish. This could be something but they need to give it more pizzazz (yes that word is in MS Word's spell-check).
