Love the Mexican hot chocolate flavors on this one. Also had this on tap at Boss ChicknBeer and it was really good to start the meal with. Slight Chile flavors rounded out by heavy chocolate. Good beer.

I am trying this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a four sample flight. It poured an opaque dark with e\khaki head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had dark chocolate and cinnamon spice notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to sip with dark chocolate and cinnamon spice presence. Horchata in a glass. The mouthfeel was fuller in body and had smooth carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

India ink colored body; thick and creamy tan head. Rich roasted grain aroma with elements of cocoa and earthy spiciness; suggestion of dark roast coffee. Big sweet and spicy flavors; milk chocolate; cayenne and chipotle pepper; a touch of licorice; very little perceived bitterness. Heavy, oily mouthfeel with some fine peppery heat.

This is a well-balanced and deeply complex beer. The malt sweetness and hot pepper presence easily masks the 9.0% ABV. The beer makes for a fine cold weather sipper.

Santa Muerte | The Phoenix Brewing Company. A bomber split with @nicholas2121 and aged for 11 months of the bottling date. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, the head's tan and two fingers thick, with solid lacing, and a jet black body.

Smells like the spices mentioned from the labeling, but not too strong. Along with nicely roasted malts.

I taste a near anise-like note from the vanilla, which isn't a bad thing. The chili peppers seem to help mask the booze warmth. And, of course, the malts are most yum-o.

Slightly heavy mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

Overall, I'll rate Santa Muerte | The Phoenix Brewing Company at a 4.5.

Santa Muerte brewed by The Phoenix Brewing Company, with an ABV 9.00% This American Double/Imperial Stout pours out deep brown color with a small light brown head. This is a decent amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to side of the glass well. The smell is Rich with roasted grains and malts. You also pick up on some nice spice sweetness, with hops. There is a lot going on in this brew. Now for the taste, it is bold with flavors. You first pick up on a spicy sweet, richness. Then a nice full amount of roasted grains and malts. There is a lot going on in Stout, to me this is over the top. Santa Muerte has a super nice balance to it, there is nothing overpowering about this brew. The body of this brew is a medium to heavy. It is really hard to pick up on 9.00% ABV in this brew, it is just that smooth. The mouth feel is bold, Rich, Spicy, Sweet, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving Santa Muerte a 4.75 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the chance to. The Phoenix Brewing Company, did a super nice job with this brew.

22 ounce bottle, Bottle #406/408, bottled on 10/24/16. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about half an inch tan head that stuck around a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and roasted malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some vegetal chili pepper flavor noticeable. Chili pepper heat is light, but gets a bit stronger as the brew warms up more. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a little creamy and coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought it was a good enough brew, however I wish the chili spiciness would have been dialed up some more. With that being said, I liked this spiced imperial stout and hope to try it again in the future. $9.99 a bomber.

32 ounce growler
Served in a Phoenix Brewing Company nonic pint glass

It pours black in color with no light coming through. It is capped with a couple inches of mocha head that leaves some decent lacing.

The aroma has chocolate, and I swear I smell some mint. I think there is a little cinnamon in there as well.

In the taste I get chocolate and mint. I get some hints of cinnamon, but mint keeps coming to mind.

Full mouthfeel

This beer drinks super easy for a 9% abv stout, and it is quite tasty. Duncan is bringing it with the past couple of seasonals.
