From the crowler in a snifter via the brewery. This interesting little
Belgian dark ale pours a lightly murky dark brown with a nice dissipating
head of off white foam that settles to a thick ring with subtle lacing.
Nose of chocolate malts, light roast, subtle Belgian spice of coriander
and light phenol notes of banana and dark brown sugar crusted bread.
Flavors show an interesting intersection of tastes with light touches of
dark chocolate, wafting notes of coffee, subtle brown sugar and toffee,
and a light herbal note of coriander and breaded malts. Decent mouth
feel; medium body, light carbonation that has just a bit of lift, smooth,
and a lightly sweet and moderately dry finish.
Overall, a very nice "mistake" from the company that supplied the
grain which was mixed. It turned out rather nice----give this one some
more ABV and maybe a bourbon or brandy barrel finish and you
will have a winner.
Cheers
