September 19th, 2015 - This peaty and nutty brew comes as a surprise, because I always think of Bier de Garde as a light ale, in the farmhouse tradition. If the smell is peaty and nutty, the flavor is clear and concise, and quite excellent, and much better than the nose. The aftertaste is long and clean and malty, with a quenching weight. It sort of tastes like what I expect a well brewed pilsener to taste like, but this has an extra layer of licorice or herbal bitterness to it, too.

Weird Belgian yeast. Slightly phenolic. Not what one would expect from an Amber...........
