Social Jetlag, our previous iteration of English Barleywine returns, after an extended slumber deep within freshly dumped bourbon barrels and further conditioned on bourbon soaked vanilla beans to emerge as a blended barrel aged Winter style Barleywine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As our spirit barrel aging program began, we knew Social Jetlag was destined for barrel aging. A portion of the initial batch was sent to bourbon barrels and left to rest and absorb all of the character the charred, whiskey soaked oak had to offer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
An entirely new batch of Social Jetlag was brewed to then blend back into the barrel aged portion at roughly 50% along with a measured amount of bourbon soaked vanilla beans. After much waiting and patience, this beer is finally ready for enjoyment during these fall and winter seasons. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We taste deep creme brûlée crust, liquid caramel dark raisin like toffee, and burnt sugar, wrapped deep in a plush liquid malt sugar blanket. Incredibly consumable, despite its ABV.

Bottle at BW share. Near black pour, ring of brown head. Malty aroma, sweet, strong, leather, tobacco. Taste brings in vanilla, caramel, brown sugar and a nice glowing warmth.

The beer pours no head at all. The beer itself is a dark brown color with a bourbon like texture: it isn't watery but it seems to be syrup like.
The smell is pretty good. It has a delicious vanilla from the bourbon and caramel notes right upfront that are almost immediately followed by vanilla from the vanilla beans and burnt sugar note.
The taste is DIVINE. It has a very good mix of all the different notes to produce the promised creme brulee note. The first note to come out is a moderate bourbon note alongside a sweet caramel and light raisin before the vanilla from the vanilla beans come in. However, the beans are not as strong as they are in the smell. The taste finishes with a light burnt sugar.
The feel is good. It has a heavy body but almost no carbonation to it. The beer has a burn through it all but it's slight. The texture is fairly velvety.
Overall, a very delicious and indulgent beer.

This one pours a darkish brown, almost black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells primarily like vanilla- authentic, sweet (but not too sweet), and cake-like. There's also some oak spice, caramel, and some fruitiness.
This is undeniably tasty, but there's just way, way, way too much vanilla here. It miraculously doesn't devolve into unnecessary sweetness - the vanilla is tasty, and doesn't make the beer syrupy. It just basically buries most of what I assume is a very solid barleywine base. I get some nice spice character from the bourbon and oak, I assume, and a vanilla-drowned hint of of caramel, but it's mostly The Vanilla Show here.
This is medium bodied, with no real booziness to it, and a nice drinkability. It's very creamy.
Without too much analysis, this is obviously very tasty. But - if you go into this expecting a classic English barleywine experience, you'll be disappointed. Dial back that vanilla by about half, and this would be pretty amazing.

Pours a dark, ruby brown, with a super dense tan head. Smells and tastes like a full-blown pastry barleywine. Big flavors of vanilla tootsie rolls, bruleed sugar and a sort of cake batter thing. Epic mouthfeel. Super silky. Great beer.

On tap at Triple Crossing Downtown.
Pours a dark amber with thick foam.
Smell is sweet and fudgy with notes of burnt sugar and toffee pudding.
Taste is sweet and desserty, with notes of fudge, vanilla, oak, burnt sugar and some dried fruit along with a mellow bitterness. Massive amount of flavor that keeps throwing up subtle nuances while it warms.
Mouthfeel is full and chewy, well carbonated.
Overall, a monstrous barley wine, but still very drinkable.
