Dark brown with minimal foam in the glass. The smell is totally vanilla. This tastes almost totally unlike beer, much less Stout. It's a scratchy dark dishwatery taste. I don't know what they use to make it dark, but it is certainly not the usual deeply roasted grain. It's hardly sweet and doesn't taste of alcohol at all. This is really quite peculiar and unpleasant. From the 16 oz can purchased at the brewery.

Can: Poured pitch-black color stout with a thin dark brown foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of acid notes with some chocolate malt and hot whiskey notes. Taste is a hot mess of alcohol, notes with aspen acid and acidic notes over chocolate malt notes. Body is thin with low carbonation and some discernible alcohol. Total drainpour, it had been a while since I got such a bad one.

Pours a near black with minimal head that recedes to nothing in several seconds. The pour suggests a thinner beer than I’d expected.
My first sniff of the glass reveals wet oak, a light char note and even a hint of smokiness. The vanilla in the beer’s name is not something I am picking up at all.
The taste has more of the char and smokiness. The whiskey is very light and in the background. The barrel is there too, though I struggle to find it. The vanilla I can’t find at all.
The body of this beer is very thin, bordering on watery.
While I like the smoky note quite a bit, the body is so light that I’m left searching for the beer. There is no canning date, so I’m not sure how old this beer is. It’s fine, but not something I’d search out again.

Pour is deep brown with ruby highlights around the edges. Beautiful tan head. Great retention and lacing. First scent is vanilla with some light roast and whiskey in the background. Taste is a great combination of vanilla, whiskey, possibly lactose. Finishes with a slight roast and bitter note. Very smooth and creamy. This is a well designed beer and all the elements work very well together.
