Called a "wine" only for its high percentage of alcohol, this is a heavy and malty beer. With caramel and oak notes, sweet but well balanced with bitterness, it is complex yet approachable. No beer snobbery here!

Can from the brewery - a couple years old at this point.
Pours a near clear garnet to mahogany colour with fleeting bubbly khaki head.
Nose of brown sugar, raisins, and plum with a bit of apple and caramel and a slightly vinous note.
Sweet dark fruit on the palate with brown sugar, raisin, toffee and caramel apple - a touch of brandy and again a touch vinous. No significant bitterness.
Medium mouthfeel - thinner than expected with tingling carbonation; a touch of boozy heat that lingers.
Tasty enough, though missed the balancing bitter kick expected from an American Barley Wine.
