355 ml can (as pictured), from the current Bowen Island mixed pack.
This beer pours is a bit hazy, pale golden color. Tight, white head, which quickly passes, thinnest string lines of lace.
The smell has some fruity sweetness, grainy, some yeast, slight citrus note.
The taste is a bit grainy, orange citrus, light flavors all around.
The carbonation is on the higher side, a bit fizzy gives a sharpness on the tongue.
The body is light to medium, a bit of a tart aftertaste.
I didn't have high hopes for this one, so wasn't that disappointed. Good enough, easy to drink, there are better examples, but worse ones too.

Pours from the can (pulled from a Bowen Island Brewing "Craft Beer" sampler 12-pack) a cloudy gold/yellow, topped by three fingers of bubbly head that quickly recede to nothing but a little bit of lacing. Lots of visible carbonation.

Smell is yeasty, grainy, artificial lemon, like a lemon-lime soda (think not 7-Up or Sprite, but one of their off-brand competitors: Squirt, or 7-Ways or Sprout or something). Slightly chemical, astringent, metallic?

Taste is actually surprisingly malty, with lots of grain and yeasty-type flavours, and some sourness--but not lemon sourness, more of a yeasty, sour beer sourness. Slightly gritty? The lemon soda flavour is here as well, and there's an interesting interplay between saccharine soda sweetness and a pretty dry base. Neither the body nor the carbonation is over the top.

This is not *good*. But it's not the worst. And it's cheap as all get out by Canadian beer standards (this 12-pack was cheaper than the 6-pack of Anchor I bought at the same time).

This pours a clear straw colour with minimal head. I didn't really get much on the nose. There was a slight lemony note but not much else. I got a bit of chemical smell when I went to take a sip, but more on that at the end. The taste wasn't bad the lemon did come forward but it wasn't overpowering like you get in some of the other citrus radlers on the market. There was a slight pale malt and hop note but it was very mild. The only real issue I had with this is the "Fresh Lemon" on the label. Now much like a recent Bud Light Apple I had there is a definite chemical smell you get as you bring the glass to your mouth to take a sip. It wasn't there when I took my initial sniff but only when I went to drink, maybe the extra O2 intake by opening my big mouth, but there was definitely something unnatural there. And again much like the aforementioned Bud Light Apple when something says or at least implies, "Fresh Lemon", that real juice was used I expect a bit more turbidity or cloudiness. Look at something like Schofferhofer or Steigl, they scream real juice. When it comes through as crystal clear my mind just steers toward thinking chemical flavouring. I don't know if that is the case on this but it sure feels that way. Had the nose been a bit different I would've rated this higher.

355ml can, a refugee from the current summery Bowen Island mixed pack.

This beer pours a cloudy, pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and somewhat fizzy bone-white head, which leaves a bit of hanging sudsy seagull lace around the glass as it quickly abates.

It smells of musty lemon juice, gritty, grainy pale malt, wayward earthy yeast, and a slight herbal, vegetal astringency. The taste is grainy, bready pale malt, still underwhelming lemon and orange citrus notes, a bland dirty yeastiness, and very little else, malhereusement.

The carbonation is nice and fluffy in its more or less engaging frothiness, the body an actual medium weight for this unacknowledged style (the German Purity Law holds no sway here, in this sidestep respect), and a bit too testy from the evolving lemon tartness, to deem this particularly smooth. It finishes not as sweet as one might have imagined, the lemon character still morose, like it just wants to piss off its parents.

To no one's surprise, Bowen Island's version of this German summertime staple falls flatter than a cyclist's unfortunate uphill climb tire blowout, when faced with shitty, old-school roads. Yeah, nothing special here, the lemon 'half' not even close to holding up its end of the so-called bargain. Blah, there are better examples out there, though maybe not quite at the same price point.
