Served in a pint glass

A: This beer pours a toffee colored brown with a one finger of khaki color head. Head recedes quickly leaving minor wisps of lacing.

S: Nose is full of toffee and molasses,

T: Taste starts off with molasses and toffee sweetness before blending in to a pale malts flavoring that fills out the middle. Finish has minor chocolate notes.

M: Medium body, medium carbonation, slick, creamy mouthfeel.

D: Goes down alright, not too filling, not much of a kick, ok representation of the style. This isn't a bad beer, just not one that has anything that pops out at you.

Served to me with one finger head. Clear dark amber in color, decent lacing. Smells bready with some tobacco notes. Good flavour on the front end with a roasted nut, tobacco taste. Solid mouthfeel with a moderate amount of dryness. Pleasant sipper. Went well with the dark chocolate and peanutbutter cake I had for dessert.

Had a few sample glasses from on tap at the brewpub. Tried it both on regular tap and from the cask.

A: Brownish amber with good clarity and nice head.

S: Aroma of toasted & darker malts evident. Not a strong hop presence.

T: Toasted & roasted darker malts. Nutty. Wish there was a stronger malt character which would help improve the mouthfeel.

M: I thought it was a bit too light, almost watery, for a brown ale. Was hoping for a nice solid, malty beer. I think if they add more grains to the mash, it'll translate better into both the mouthfeel & taste. Noticed this in both the regular tap & cask samples I had.

D: Would make a very nice session beer. I was considering having a full pint after tasting my samples, but instead, I moved on to another selection.

I had this on tap at the Victory Brewpub in Downingtown - 2/20/10

A- A medium brown shade w/ good clarity and light tan cap with tight bead

S - A crisp nose with toasted malt aroma and light coffee notes, mild on hops, but they accent the malt aroma

M - The feel has mild roasted texture w/ moderately high carbonation and subtle hint of hop bitterness in the finish

T - A creamy taste as it hits the tip of the tongue but becomes pretty roasted in flavor as it moves around the palate, mild bread notes w/ slightly biscuity presence - a slightly dry finish to this ale

D - The beer was pretty standard, a moderately drinkable, yet solid offering. The beer is not agressive in any fashion making it easy to quaff it focuses on dry toasted malt and balanced hop qualities

Got this at Whole Foods Beer Room Bowery on a Victory tasting day. Sizable light tan head on a clear light tea brown liquid. Decent retention and lacing no real carbonation activity as I gaze at the glass. A malty aroma with faint notes of caramel and toffee. A solid yeast esther fruitiness and earthy hops round it all out. Taste is just great. Sweet, smooth and nutty with a dry earthy finish. A grape like fruitiness is pinned to a light toffee undercurrent. The dry finish is accentuated by the crisp, clean feel that leaves a lingering toffee, graham, cookies, and earth like hop leafiness. A light effervescence on the tongue gives this a refreshing touch. A real nice session ale that goes down with ease and pleasure. I hope they bottle it.
