A: A soft cola pour exit from the can builds a frothy tan and dense head of two inches above that stays for a few minutes duration. Macro-carbonation bubbles bead on the chalice walls awaiting release. A thin and whispy broken lace pattern encircles the inner walls. Overall a solid presentation per style.

S: Fresh roasty coffee and chocolate mixture first on the nose is more reminiscence of a stout rather porter. Some burned damped wood, cinnamon and some faint peanut butter sweetness.

T: The flavor was rich and bold, sweet peanut butter was more evident with a creamy chocolate base. Some wet campfire, roasted pine, and soothing dark malt bitterness. There was some burnt cake sweetness and caramel along with some spicing of cinnamon and cardamom.

M: Mouthful was creamy, rich, and deep with a dark and bitter milkiness on the tongue. Mid range carbonation.

O: Overall this leaves a pleasant and lingering roasty bitterness long after the swallow with some earthy mineral tones. At 6.0% both the alcohol content and the roasty nature leads more toward a stout. The beer gets better with each sip deeper into the experience with a big palate per style.

 

 

 

 

 

A dessert beer by name...

...Though not necessarily by taste. What I mean is that it's not an overly sweet beer though it works well as a dessert beer for the end of the night. Enjoyed this one quite a bit and have several more to try out of the sixer I picked up. Getcha some...

 

On tap at Lowe’s Foods, poured into a shaker pint glass.

Looks very good, black ebony color, two fingers cream head. Full curtain lacing and persistent surface cap.
Strong peanut, chocolate, vanilla aromas.
Peanut butter flavor for sure. Sweet cake, light chocolate, roast malt as well.
Not offensively sweet, but reasonable for a peanut butter donut beer. Great, lasting head.
Little alcohol heat from the 6 % ABV. Is what it says on the label.

 

Cherry/amber highlights visible through the pour, as it rests beneath an off white thin head. Pronounced peanut butter fragrance which dovetails into the effervescent texture and a similarly pastry flavor taste. Sweetness is forward more than any bitter. Mouthfeel tame. A carbonated release wells up same time the onset of warming from the 6%. Enjoyable brew from Victory. Wet finish.

For those not familiar with the regional snack cake, this might be the most iconic in the Philadelphia area. We all grew up with them and likely still have a taste every once in a while. It's an interesting goal to try to get a porter to capture all that goodness. To start, two twelve ounce cans were emptied into a clear glass liter mug. A solid very light biege head resulted. The porter is typically black coffee brown, maybe just a tad lighter. The aroma is like a mild chocolate porter, made a little sweeter by what might be vanilla, but not particularly peanut buttery. That's the taste, too. Some chocolate, that's not too sweet and something that reminds of yellow cake. Unfortunately, the peanut butter is a bit too faint. Of the extras, there's some reasonable glass lacing and the body is rich and smooth enough. This is a decent stand on its own chocolate porter. But, without that dose of peanut butter flavor, you'll probably prefer the original treat.
